about
DN0 (“0” pronounced as “oh”) is a raucous experimental improvisational ensemble that Ian Dugas, Max Nordile, and Steve0 put together one evening in Oakland, Fall 2019. Channeling their inner Mosquitoes (-if they recorded to cassette-), they lay down crunchy improvisations that sound like a de-funked Saccharine Trust or a non-literary The Fall. These tracks unfurl and expand into a clanging resonance of electric guitar, drums, and interesting percussive noises. The pitter-patter of Dugas’s drumming is reminiscent of Paul Hanley / Karl Burns, Nordile’s vox & guitar are always channeling the obtuse/incomprehensible, and it for sure sounds like Steve0 is throwing a number of jazz chords in there.
These tapes are duped in real-time on my cassette deck, covers printed by Kinkos, and are in limited supply. There were a number of improvisations recorded that evening and the digital release is Max’s tracklist and some tapes ordered will be my tracklist (I like those jazzier sounding songs that are excluded here).
Below are some words by Max of the evening and what I imagine many Nordile-related gatherings entail:
