about

VINYL RELEASE OF "TINY SHAPES" ON MT.ST.MTN.
www.mtstmtn.com/audio/mtn-24-re-seraphin-tiny-shapes

Jangling power pop that finds itself somewhere between paisley pop and post-punk. Each track is beautifully constructed: chiming guitar leads and a hushed yet wobbly vocal delivery that adds a sneering moodiness (which pairs well with the lurking romanticism of each song). It’s a little burnt out, but still holding on.

When I first heard the album, I immediately thought of the great Peter Perrett (The Only Ones), but there’s a Mazzy Star-era David Roback (RIP) sound and clear janglyness (a la The Feelies).

‘Tiny Shapes’ is the debut album of ex-Talkies frontman, Ray Seraphin. Engineered and co-produced by Jasper Leach (Tony Molina) and mastered by Matt Bullimore (The Mantles), Tiny Shapes was written following a move from Austin to the Bay Area. While reacclimating to life back in his hometown, Seraphin enlisted original Talkies rhythm section, Owen Kelley (Sleepy Sun) and Phil Lantz (Neutrals) to help develop his songs.
